A Day in the Life of an Octogenarian

Foist ( That’s “first” in New Yorker), it’s wonderful and God’s blessing that Marjorie and I are still mobile (somewhat) and vertical (when we wanna be). We go to breakfast out almost every day. That gets us moving, which is good.
Today was kinda typical. Urologist appt at 9am. I call it a urology pit stop. My monthly change of my supra pubic catheter. Lotsa fun. “Hi, I’m Alysia. I’ll be taking care of you today. You know the drill.” Yeah, I did. Drop your drawers and hop on the gurney in the treatment room. Lay back and feel totally humiliated as Alysia changes my paraphernalia. Wham bam thank you Ma’am, and I’m done. Ok put your breeches back on and wait for Nurse Brittany to complete the visit, with the familiar song and dance. “How ya doin? Feelin ok? Any drainage problems? OK. See ya in a month.” It’s now 9:15. Started at 9:00. Like I said, Wham bam thank you ma’am. On to breakfast.
Nice shrimp and grits breakfast with
Marjorie at Okra Grill. Jim, our waiter, is always fun to talk to. He tells us he is off to Portugal  for the next two weeks. We’ll be waiting for his stories when he gets back.
Marjorie is recovering from minor skin surgery on her right facial cheek, and I’m beaten down by my “pit” stop, so it’s home for some rest.
Within minutes, Marjorie’s asleep at the table and I’m snoring in the recliner.
When I awaken I think about what I’ll fix for dinner or if I’m gonna go get some Chinese or Italian food at one of our many Charleston eateries. Thank God I can still drive and we have that option.
Looking at next week, Marjorie has another skin surgery scheduled. This time on the left facial cheek. Needless to say, but I will anyway, she will be in more discomfort, (hopefully not pain) for the next couple of weeks at least.

I get to see my electrophysiologist, Dr Baker, to discuss my next pacemaker battery change. I understand he wants to get rid of my heart monitor on my bedside table and monitor my heart function 24/7 on my I phone. I have a bunch of angst about that cuz I’m a computer and iPhone dinosaur.

I’m already looking forward to our planned getaway in March to Daytona Beach for a week to just enjoy the beach and visit with Marjorie ‘s brother, Harry. Good Lord willin, we’ll be able to make that journey. In the meantime, it’s doctor visits and breakfast outings that mark our social calendars. Ain’t that exciting? Enuf.
