Just a few days ago, Marjorie, happily heard from her brother, Harry, that we were going to have an opportunity to spend some quality time with several members of her family who we hadn’t seen for many years.
Here’s the lineup and the reason for the gathering in Charleston on Saturday, August 10, 2024.
Harry’s grandson, McKinley, is entering the class of 2028 at MUSC med school in just a few days. Quite an achievement!
McKinley’s dad, Chris and his mom, Terri, were bringing several family members to witness their son’s “White Coat” Ceremony, a formal commencement into the rigors of medical school at MUSC. How proud they all must be. How honored and pleased we were to be invited to join them for a celebration dinner after the Saturday ceremony and a brunch on Sunday morning.
Life often gets in the way of close family relationships, especially when geography and mobility issues become obstacles. This visit allowed us, Aunt Marjorie and Uncle Don, to recapture some of the family closeness that had been lost for too long.
I was especially proud to be able to help to secure our dinner reservation at the Marina Variety Store restaurant, one of our regular eateries in Charleston.
Marjorie and I thoroughly enjoyed our time this weekend with her brother, Harry, our nephew, Chris and his wife Terri, their lovely daughter, Kaylee, starting her senior year of high school; and of course the guest of honor, McKinley, who gets to spend at least four more years in Charleston attending MUSC.
We are hopeful that we will see them all often at future celebrations. There is much to share with family and friends in this “holy city” of Charleston. Enuf
