Family Sadness, Gratitude, Pride and Joy

Recently, our family suffered a terrible loss with the death of our beloved Candyce (Candy) Antley. She was Harry’s first wife and mother of his four wonderful boys (now men). Harry is Marjorie’s brother.

She was a much loved Aunt Candy to our kids and a dear friend to us. She is sorely missed. God bless and rest her soul.

There was a memorial service yesterday for Candy in Irmo, SC, about 2 hours from us. I was unable to travel and attend due to an important medical procedure I had scheduled months before. Our daughter, Christine, couldn’t attend cause she was my designated driver. Thank you, Christine.

Marjorie and her sister, Mary Louise, worked up the following little scheme with my total support. Mary Louise would come from Waynesboro, VA by Amtrak, to our home in Charleston. From here they would figger out a way to get to the service in Irmo. Trouble is, I couldn’t drive them and neither of them can drive.

Enter the family hero and all around good person, our son, Jim and his lovely wife, Kiersten. They live near Savannah, GA. And were more than willing to be part of our family’s show of support for Harry and the four boys.

Soo— yesterday morning Jim and Kiersten drove up here from Savannah. They picked up Marjorie and Mary Louise and drove to the 2PM memorial service. Christine dropped me off at home about an hour after they left for Irmo. Thanks, Christine. Thanks also so much to Jim and Kiersten for driving Marjorie and Mary Louise all over South Carolina. We’ll be seeing Jim and Kiersten at the Farmer’s Market downtown in about 6 hours, cause they stayed in Charleston overnight.

Thanks also to Mary Louise. She took the brave step of getting to the Amtrak station in Richmond, VA and catching it to North Charleston. I am so grateful and beaming with pride for the gargantuan effort the family made to show support for Harry and Candy. They turned a family tragedy into a joyful reunion. Enuf
