One of the better lines I’ve heard recently came from an elderly author speaking about one of his friends who asked, “Who in the hell wants to live to be ninety?” To which the author responded, “Any son of a bitch who’s 89”.
So what’s good about having your marbles and being 85 is having your marbles and being 85.
So what’s not so good? Having too much time to think about what you might have accomplished.
Let’s see. I didn’t write a symphony that will be played 200 years from now. I didn’t invent or build anything significant. So what??!!
The Good Lord blessed me by allowing me the great fortune to find the greatest wife ever. She has patiently put up with me for 60 years as of Aug 29. And by the way, with her, we’ve parented three wonderful children, who have become great adults performing outstanding services for their communities and for the US.
Life goes on. We now have five grands and one lovely two-year old great granddaughter. So, again, what’s not so good about being 85.
How about nothing works right and everything kinda hurts a bit. Whenever I get outta my SUV I need to remember to stand still a moment and wait for Sparky (my pacemaker) to recognize my changed position. Until it catches up, I am wobbly and could fall. That ain’t good if you’re 85. I just finished some grocery shopping and just unloading the SUV tired me out.
BUT—- I’m still here. My doc called me “the poster boy for borrowed time”. There is still so much to learn and experience just within our small family circle. Ya know, I’ll take it as long as life lets me.
I act like I have plenty of time. We’ve planned a Christmas cruise Dec 21-28 and a vacation trip to Daytona from March 22-29, 2025. AND. We’ve rented the beach house at Folly from July 12-19, 2025. C’mon Sparky. I’ll change your battery in about 6 months, so keep doin your thing so I can keep talking about our many adventures. Enuf.
You have too many things to do. Tell Sparky to keep up!
