Playtime, 1953

As I stated in previous musings, in summertime, no-school days, we left the house at about nine ( after doing morning chores) and maybe returned for lunch; but commonly didn’t go back in until suppertime.   We played at something we made up.  Some games were by no means politically correct by today’s so-called standards
Here are some of their given names
Cowboys and Indians
War
Guns
Cops and Robbers
Kick the Can
Ring Aleevio
Good Guys Vs Bad Guys

All the good guy/bad guy games required play guns.  Most of the time my gun was my sideways “L “ shaped right hand.  I graduated to a small metal cap gun with rolls of caps after my 10th birthday celebration.  “ Bang bang you’re dead “. Was a common exclamation.   “ No I ain’t.  Ya missed me”. A common response

I learned a valuable lesson at about 13 when preparing for my Catholic confirmation.  While sitting in church like a little angel, a rather strict nun, we guys weren’t very fond of, walked by in the aisle.  Smart ass, Me, pointed my hand at her back in the familiar “sideways L “ ( gun) shape.  I nudged my buddy next to me to show off how smart I was.  About 3 seconds later I received a sharp slap to the back of my head “Ouch”.  Unbeknownced
( is that a real word) to me. Another nun was right behind me and saw my stupid trick.
LESSON LEARNED——-Always check your 6 before doin sumpin stupid.
