When I was a young man 60 or so years ago, I never once thought or asked myself, “How can I poke a hole in someone’s groin and shove a tube with a device on it all the way to his heart. And then implant said device on an appendage of his heart to occlude that appendage and therefore reduce his probability of a stroke???”
Who the hell thinks like that? Doctors do. That’s who.
In the last 24 years, I’ve had various great doctors use that thoroughfare from groin to heart at least 5 times. First, on Sep 21, 2000, when Dr Reider opened my totally blocked LAD artery (nicknamed the widow maker) ; and put two stents in that artery to keep it open.
That was my heart attack, which I obviously survived. From 2000 to 2023, that thoroughfare saw action at least three times to check the status of my CAD (coronary artery disease).
Finally, last year, it was used to perform the interesting trick of using laser to kill two nodes of my heart which weren’t working and transferring that workload of controlling my heart beat to my pacemaker/defibrillator, which was implanted surgically almost 10 years earlier. I’m now “ living better electrically”. Let me tell ya. It beats the hell outta open heart surgery.
Again, I ask, “Who thinks like that? Thank God doctors do.
Enuf for now. Good Night.
